How to join
If you are curious about our team and are thinking about joining, feel free to contact us (after you read the FAQ section). Rugby is a gentleman’s game that will test your mental, physical, and emotional determination. Only players who are dedicated to excellence can handle this game. Our home pitch is Riverfront Field, located along the Willamette River at the Autzen Footbridge. Our team is always open to new membership. Because we field both an A side a B side, new players are guaranteed to get game experience right away.
Welcome, gentlemen, to another year of rugby. We are entering a new phase in our club’s history. The culture of our program is changing. Building off of the foundation created by previous presidents, under stellar new leadership, we are taking our club to a new level. The club was established in 1961 and has developed into a leading competitor among Pacific Northwest schools.
The University of Oregon Rugby Football Club (UORFC) enjoys a fine tradition of producing top-notch gentlemen who are leaders in their studies, their sport, and their community. However, our team is now transitioning away from the social club mindset and embracing the responsibility of being a serious group of ruggers.
Our talent is ready to make an impact again this year during both the 7's and 15's seasons. We are working hard to ensure a successful year as a member of the Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference Union (NCRC) Collegiate Division I.
The Conference includes:
- University of Oregon
- Oregon State University
- University of Idaho
- Washington State University
- Western Washington University
- Eastern Washington University
- Boise State University
- Western Oregon University
- Gonzaga University
What if I have never played rugby before?
Those who have participated in football, soccer, wrestling and many other sports have a great foundation in place to make the transition to playing rugby that much easier. You will learn from hands-on training and game experience. Many people who now play rugby had never played before coming to college. What’s more is that you will have the opportunity to learn from some of the best coaches in the Northwest to help get you up to speed.
What kind of gear do I need?
For practice you will need a mouthguard, a pair of cleats (soccer, football, or rugby), and compression shorts (recommended). Should you choose to wear football cleats, they must be detachable because you are not allowed to wear the toe stud. Other than that, all you need to wear is a t-shirt, or compression shirt, and shorts (rugby shorts and rugby practice jerseys are recommended as do they not rip easily like t-shirts or sport shorts).
What do my dues go towards?
Dues are used to fund a wide array of costs ranging from facility rental fees, personal trainers, team/personal gear, referees, lodging, transportation, social activities, and tournament entry fees.
